Cruentis — Fine Art Photography
My name is Miguel Subtirelu. I am a fine art photographer with a professional background in high-end print production and image preparation.
Since 2023, I have been working full-time at WhiteWall, one of the leading professional photo laboratories for museum- and gallery-grade prints.
My work focuses on preparing photographs for print at the highest level: image optimization, retouching, editing, material selection, and advising artists, photographers, and companies on how to achieve the best possible physical result.
This hands-on, daily work with demanding clients and complex print projects forms the foundation of my own artistic practice.
It has given me a precise understanding of how images translate from screen to paper, how materials affect perception, and what distinguishes a technically correct print from an exceptional one.
Cruentis exists as a direct result of this expertise.
Cruentis
Founded in 2025, Cruentis is my independent fine art photography project.
It is not a photography studio and not a service. I do not offer commissioned work or photoshoots.
Cruentis exists solely as an artistic practice centered on physical prints.
The project is built around one principle:
an image is only complete once it exists as a print.
Thanks to my professional background and the collaboration with WhiteWall, all Cruentis works are produced to the same standards I apply daily in a professional lab environment, with reliable global shipping and consistent quality control.
Artistic Focus
I have been engaged with art since 2018 and began specializing in photography around 2021.
My work is rooted in fine art photography, with a strong focus on mood and atmosphere.
I am drawn to darker tonalities and images that leave space for interpretation rather than explanation.
Portraits are a central part of my work, but Cruentis is not limited to a single genre.
I deliberately keep my subject matter open, allowing the work to evolve through experimentation and long-term projects.
Texture plays a key role in my visual language. I work primarily with high-resolution medium format digital systems (100 MP) and complement this with analog photography.
Grain is not an effect but a structural element of my images. It becomes especially visible in larger prints, where detail, depth and surface fully unfold.
Print Philosophy
For me, image and print are inseparable.
While I consider 80 × 60 cm to be an ideal size for many spaces, offering presence without excess, large-scale prints remain my personal preference.
Large formats reveal the full potential of resolution, texture, and materiality, and they reflect how I ultimately want my work to be experienced.
Every Cruentis print is conceived with its final physical form in mind.
Partners & Support
WhiteWall is the exclusive production partner behind all Cruentis prints.
All prints are produced at the premium photo lab WhiteWall using the best papers and materials.
The collaboration ensures technical excellence, material consistency, and international reach.
My dual role as an artist and as a professional print specialist creates a direct link between artistic intent and production quality.
SEDOLL is a business partner and sponsor of Cruentis.
They provided a hyperrealistic doll for use in my artistic and educational projects.
SEDOLL creates highly detailed, lifelike dolls with a strong focus on realism and craftsmanship.
The doll is used as a subject in selected Cruentis artworks and in a photography course for artists, alongside real models, with a strong focus on prints and print preparation.
Artistic Collaboration
Cruentis is currently a solo project, but collaboration is an important part of my work.
In October 2025, I participated in an exhibition in London together with artist and close friend James Pietrangelo.
Further collaborations and exhibitions are planned in the coming years.
Direction
Cruentis is designed as a long-term project.
My focus is on producing cohesive bodies of work, developing experimental formats, and presenting them through exhibitions and physical prints.
Multiple future exhibitions are planned beyond 2027, without fixed timelines.
Cruentis may remain a solo practice or expand through collaborations and educational projects.
What remains constant is the commitment to quality, material integrity, and serious artistic intent.
